Real GDP rose by 4.9 percent a year from 2000 through 2008, more than twice its pace in the 1980s and ’90s. Telecommunications, banking, and retailing are flourishing. Construction is booming. Private-investment inflows are surging.
Africa is one of the seven continents, and the second largest one. Scientists widely believe that the first humans evolved in Africa, around 2 million years ago. The Apes that are our closest relatives are there. Conservatives, however, believe that the first humans were created in the Garden of Eden, which is presumably located in Iraq.
Africa contains two distinct geographical regions, North Africa and Sub-saharan Africa. The Sahara Desert separates them. North Africa borders the Mediterranean Sea, shares cultural values with the Middle East and Europe. Both were colonized by Europeans. Sub-saharan Africa is comprised of former European colonies and some of the most pristine, undisturbed land in the world where animals are at the top of the food chain instead of humans. There are many different tribes with different tribal values. There are very few conservatives in Africa. Most Africans are pleased Barack Obama got elected President of the U.S.
North Africa and Sub Saharan AfricaEdit
North Africa was known to the ancients. A large part of North Africa was in the Roman Empire. Sub Saharan Africa was less well known in Europe. Explorers in ships ”discovered” the coast of Africa and found out the shape of the continent. The African interior was less well known in Europe. British Victorians called Africa the Dark Continent. Explorers like David Livingstone went into the interior of Africa and found out what was there. The explorers came back to their countries and told people that they’d discovered new land. The Europeans said they’d discovered Africa. The Africans thought that was silly. No white man discovered Africa. Africans had always known what Africa was.
