The Alps are a mountain range in mainland Europe stretching from France through Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria and Germany to Slovenia. Scholars consider the Alps in Western and Central Europe and the Carpathians in Central Europe and the Balkans are a part of a larger mountain formation. The highest peak of the Alps is Mount Blanc, however the highest peak of Europe (probably) is Mount Elbrus in the Caucasus.
