America is a national weekly liberal Roman Catholic magazine published by the American Jesuits. It has good opinions that you won't find in the conservative Catholic Digest. Unlike Catholic Digest, America also tackles important political and moral issues. It was founded in 1909.

Because America presents liberal-leaning perspectives on Roman Catholicism, it has endured criticism from conservatives and The Vatican as well. Unlike Catholic Digest, America has sought and still seeks to offer its readers Catholic viewpoints representing more than just the liberal side of sensitive issues such as homosexuality, abortion, and the roles of women in the Catholic Church. At least America gave a fair shake to Obama when he was invited to give the commencement address at Notre Dame in May 2009 and even receive an honorary degree from there. And maybe, America will even take part in advocating change for the Holy See and for a Vatican III Council to happen.
