Equal draft is the concept that all individuals of a society should be treated by military conscription laws in the same way.
In the United States, only men are required to sign up for the draft. If a man between the ages of 18 and 25 does not comply, he is subject to a $250,000 fine and/or five years of jail time (though in practice no man has ever been penalized in this way). While most feminists do not actively oppose current conscription legislation, many find that it treats women unfairly, and leads to the perception that they are too weak.
Many higher-class American men evade the draft by applying for college, while lower-class Americans typically cannot afford the same luxury. Conscription legislation in the United States has been criticized for this.
