European Convention on Human Rights
From Liberapedia
The European Convention on Human Rights applies throughout the European Union. The Convention should safeguard European citizens against being tortured or killed. The Convention should also prevent slavery and servitude. It should guarantee people a fair trial if they have been arrested. The Convention should guarantee freedom of thought, freedom of conscience and freedom of religion. The Convention should guarantee freedom of expression and of peaceful assembly. People should also be free to marry when old enough.
Various organisations exist, notable the European Court of Human Rights that should help protect people who have suffered through violation of these rights. Most of the time the European Convention on Human Rights works reasonably well.
