The population of Hawaii was decimated by the introduction of various diseases and missionaries by European visitors in the 19th Century.

The United States kindly assisted in the abdication of the islands' queen, and annexed the territory. Hawaii's two most important export crops, sugar and pineapple, have been supplanted in volume and profit by the cultivation and sale of Cannabis sativa.
