The Industrial Revolution was a technological, economic and societal breakthrough in western and central Europe. Its spread deeply changed European nations - their societies, politics and economies.

Progressive industrialisationEdit

The first country to industrialise was the United Kingdom, where industrialisation started in the late 18th Century and grew progressively during the 19th Century.

Later industrialisation reached the Benelux countries, France, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, then Spain, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Russia, and finally Turkey, Bulgaria and Greece.
