A total of 56 men signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Of these men, 48 were born in the American colonies, while three of the eight foreign-born men were natives of Ireland. 
Irish-Americans are Americans of Irish descent. There are 34.5 Million Irish-Americans compared to 4.68 million in Ireland. The only larger group in the United States is those of German descent.  . Many Irish people were forced to emigrate of the at the time of the Irish Potato Famine though Irish have been emigrating at other times. Many Irish Americans are Roman Catholic and many try to hold onto parts of Irish culture.
