Jeh Charles Johnson (born September 11, 1957) is an American civil and criminal trial lawyer, and a Democrat. Jeh Johnson was the 4th United States Secretary of Homeland Security before being succeeded by John F. Kelly in 2017.  He was the General Counsel of the Department of Defense from 2009 to 2012 during the first Obama Administration. Jeh Johnson was appointed under President Barack Obama, his deputy is Alejandro Mayorkas. Johnson assumed office on December 23, 2013. Johnson studied at Morehouse College and Columbia Law School.
