Julia Bonk

Julia Bonk (born 29 April 1986 in Burg bei Magdeburg, East Germany) is a Left Party politician in the Landtag of Saxony. Elected at age 18, she became the youngest member of a parliament in Germany.


As a 14 year old Julia Bonk worked in the Pupils-council of Dresden and was elected Vice-State-Pupils-Speaker for the federal State of Saxony. Two years later she was elected State-Pupils-Speaker. In the summer of 2004 she finished her school education with a bilingual (German-French) Abitur. From Oktober 2004 she studies Politics and History at TU Dresden.

Political CareerEdit

Julia Bonk became a member of the Landtag of Saxony in 2004 directly after finishing school and is since member of the Parliamentary Group of The Left Party. She became nationally known as the youngest member of a Parliament in Germany. The newspaper Badische Zeitung counted, that 87 international papers printed her picture. Furthermore Bonk is the youngest fulltime politician of all times. In 2006 Julia Bonk officially became member of Left Party During the forth legislative period of the Landtag of Saxony (2004-2009), Julia Bonk was member and Vice-Spokeswoman of the parliamentary committee on School and Sport and member of the committee on Science and University, Culture and Media. In the current fifth legislative period (since 2009) she is member of the committee on Legal Affairs, the Constitution and Europe.

Furthermore until 2009 she was one of ten Federal-Speakers of the Youth Organisation Solid: The Socialist Youth. Together with Christoph Spehr she is speaker of The Emancipatory Left, a current within the The Left Party.
