Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is the Muslim President of Iran. He wants to wipe out Israel from the world map. He is also a holocaust denier. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not say in so many words Israel to be "wiped off the map" this quote is a supposed mistranslation that is being used to justify an attack on Iran for political purpose.He said "the occupation regime over Israel must vanish from the pages of time". Ahmadinejad was phrasing Khomeini, who years ago said that Israel "must vanish from the pages of time".Both were speaking of regime change, ie they want Muslims to rule where Israel is now and want to treat the Jews as second class citizens. It's not clear if he was threatening military action against Israel but he clearly wants the current Israeli regime replaced with something else, presumably Muslim rulers and Israelis have every reason to feel threatened. The mainstream media claims that he exercises real power over the Iranian armed forces and foreign policy which he allegedly does not- this power belongs to Iran's supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hoseini Khamenei who declared a fatwa on nuclear arms. Well really? Why do they go to so much trouble to enrich uranium and plutonium if they don't intend to use it? Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a fatwa saying the production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons was forbidden under Islam. The fatwa was cited in an official statement by the Iranian government at an August 2005 meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. We hope that was not a smokescreen.
