The position of Moldova in Europe

Moldova is a democratic landlocked country in Central Europe. It has a pact with the European Union. [1]

Moldova has a colourful history. It used to be part of the Ottoman Empire, the Russian Empire and a part of Romania before being incorporated into the USSR. Most Moldovans are culturally and linguistically similar to Romanians.

Moldova regained its independence in the 1990s and established a market economy but Russia still has troops in Transinistria, a rebel state within Moldova. [2]

Modern MoldovaEdit

The European Union and Moldova are cooperating to integrate Moldovan economy into the EU. Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe. Russia from time to time exerts economic pressure threatening to raise the price of oil which Russia exports to Moldova and refusing to import Moldovan wine. [3]
