Ulysses S. Grant was the eighteenth President of the United States. He was a Union general during the American Civil War, and was a Republican, who were the Liberals back then. Although he was supposedly a liberal, things weren't always good for Grant, his Administration was notorious for corruption, and then he was fined for speeding in a horse-drawn carriage, which is not at all sensible.

Although historians didn't view Grant favorably because of the corruption, those views have sometimes been countered by his pursuit of Civil rights for African-Americans.

Grant was an early proponent of World government, though probably as in the USA running the world, see Ulysess S. Grant.
