The United States Virgin Islands comprise a United States territory in the Caribbean. The area was originally discovered by Christopher Columbus, the islands belonged to Denmark before Denmark became as liberal as the Danes are today. Later the United States of America purchased the islands from Denmark. There are about 100,000 people living there and tourism dominates the Economy. The inhabitants got the right to vote during the 20th Century.  Their capital is Charlotte Amalie.
