Yemen is a country in south west Asia. Yemen is on the southern corner of the Arabian peninsula bordering Oman to the north east and Saudi Arabia to the North and North West. It was formerly a British colony and its main city Aden was a strategic base at the Southern end of the Red sea.
Yemen is an Arab country with an almost entirely Sunni Muslim population. Its lack of oil makes it one of the poorer Arab countries. Despite being next to more wealthy countries like Oman and Arabia, it is a third world countries (it is one of three third world countries in the Middle East, along with Afghanistan and Syria.)
Much of the country is desert or semidesert, however it is quite mountainous and the as temperature falls with altitude there is agriculture and in the highlands.
A longstanding local fashion for rhinocerous horn handled knives is one of the major causes of the poaching which endangers the world's wild Rhinos.
